I use an iphone 6, the same one i have had for almost two years. Time and time again, this phone has slipped through my hands and sashayed (Doyin should be proud I used this word) a few times before lying face down in mockery of my slippery fingers. The screen always looks like a mangled mess, usable but barely. My friend once mocked me saying that my fingers would soon become scar-full, a testament to my negligence.

I got the phone in June 2019 from a friend that wanted to be rid of it. I was curious about what it meant to finally use the much spoken about iphone and boy was i disappointed. My Samsung could do a lot more than this little device could but I liked it. I liked that it was sleek and I guess that it equally liked slipping out of my fingers.

As I thought about writing this article, I did some research and praise be, the iPhone 6 was released in 2014. My respect for this ancient piece of technology quadrupled especially considering the fact that in September 2014 i was in my 2nd year at university and somehow oblivious of the greatness that was the iphone 6.

You see, I do not come from a family of great means and as such a lot of things were not obvious to me even though i could see them and people around me had them. The first time I really looked at an iphone was when i returned to lagos in 2019 after my successful stint with the “NYSC” in Kano. The iphone X was all the rage but i did not quite take a liking to it, it was too chunky, too much. I liked how the 6 felt in my hands.

My smartphones are christened Tamuno and my personal computers Lucia. My current Tamuno is not very healthy, she has mouthpiece issues and this means that I have to raise my voice and use the speaker to make calls or use an audio accessory(not my fave). Her back camera is also Fucked, forgive my French. There is no cover and I think one or three dust particles are lodged in there somewhere.

A couple of weeks ago, i got a clubhouse invite and found out that i couldn’t even download the app because Tamuno could not be upgraded any further and IOS 13 is a product requirement.

Getting one of the latest iphones would be a smarter choice considering all the hoops i currently have to jump through with Tamuno and all that but i feel like i should stick with her a little more, see how resilient she can be and how much life i can extract out of her.

The only wahala here is that on nights like this, I think about how I do not want to be 25 and sporting a 6 but deep down, I want to be 25 and sporting a 6. It speaks to me of a defiance of sorts, a leftist move, a sticking it to the man situation but,
